Thanks Edward :) Charlie's so cool. We sort of hemmed and hawed on MSN for a while and then I had this idea and she came over with just the right clothes and props ... and we went and hung out in a back alley for a while :)

what i love about this is that the shadow and light really distort the look of the woman so that it doesn't look like charlie at all. so, the light and shadow become a sort of mask. nice one. i like it a lot. ;)

Thanks, emdot.

I love the notion that we can create a whole collection of unique Charlie characters with just the "good old tools" - composition, costume, prop and lighting.

It's a fun exercise.

The "bulls eye" pattern from the light gives a subtext of "target" to the image, which is quite interesting. I also really liked the direct portrait you posted from the same shoot on your blog.

after looking at this for awhile I noticed a couple of things...

Charlie's right arm pointed straight down and the cigarette in that hand is straight down as well. Also, her right leg is straight and right foot facing straight at us.

Charlie's left arm is bent at the elbow and it's this arm that's holding the helmet. Her left leg is bent at the knee and her foot faces left as well (our right)

Her body language is very interesting in that part of her 'leans' left, towards the grafitti and away from the spotlight. The other side of Charlie looks to the right...looks straight into the right.

just noticing.

Great idea, great shot. And indeed I think, too, the strong attraction of it is in the model's pose.

Yah, she's a total natural. She translates vague mumbled instructions better than anyone I've ever worked with :)

very good idea without flash !
i like this one for the parallel rays of light and the helmet she have in her hand, as a race car pilot, but i think it's the Peter Fonda helmet in Easy Rider isn't it ?

So cool. Looking at it, I can't help but think of the Ramones, Suzi Quatro and others. That dude "Krakr" gets around.
