that was once a beautiful home. I find it so
sad when great places get abandoned. There is
this place on my drive into work that was
fantastic but the elderly parents passed away
and the children don't want to live there but
they can't agree to sell or for what price.
So It's sat there for over 2years now and
it's slowly becoming an eyesore. The house's
value goes down, it gets broken into,
vandalized and no one wants to buy it for
anything- not even the large amount of
property, or the shell of a once fantastic
home. sigh. It happens a lot in Maine too.
There was more than one place on my drive to
work, though there more than likely the
houses are taken back by the bank, and then
they get burnt. Here in Mass most property is
too valuable so eventually it gets sold..
I actually used to live in that house, years
ago. It wasn't in the best shape, then. The
foundation needed repairs and the bathroom
roof leaked. It wasn't past saving, though.
Then it was bought and sold several times,
and each time, it went further downhill. The
last time, the woman who bought it gutted it
and took the roof off the back addition, then
just left it to rot.
There are a lot of houses like that in my
mom's neighborhood. The factories all shut
down or moved out of the country, so the
economy tanked. My mom's house is across the
alley from this one, and even with a ton of
improvements, it's worth less now than it was
when she bought it 20 years ago. And that
was before the housing market went kerplooie!
