CARNABY STREET FASHION 1965
In the mid 60s, the London Mods congregated in Carnaby Street for a
regular fashion parade. Pop music poured from the boutiques and men's
shops along the small, narrow street. By the mid 60s, boutiques
catering for girls as well as boys were common on Carnaby Street; the
Mods usually brought their girlfriends along with them. Shops on
Carnaby Street often came and went.
From my personal collection.

Loved your vintage photos of Carnaby Street and the mods who used to gather there. I spent a considerable amount of time in London in 1966, and haunted the shops such as John Stephens. Twiggy was the model du jour, as well as Chrissy Shrimpton, a paramour of Mick Jagger. Ah, the days of the Kinks singing "Dedicated Follower of Fashion," the Stones "Aftermath," LP, and the Beatles "Revolver." I lived in a bedsitter in Notting Hill Gate, and had an opportunity to see the Stones, Animals, and Yardbirds on Ready, Steady Go on May 27, 1966, as well as take in several shows at the Marquee and Tiles clubs. Do you remember "Le Kilt," a basement club on Greek Street in Soho? Or Dollys on Jereym St. Or how about the Scotch of St. James or Blaises? Those were heady days indeed. I was on extended holiday from my home in San Francisco at the time, and though I returned to England a decade later, my six month residency in 1966 will forever remain a defining moment in my life. Thank you for sharing these wonderful images.

I'm afraid I never got the chance to mingle in London but my heart was always there, being a mod myself. I remember Ready Steady Go, it was brilliant to look forward to it every week. Scotland always had their fair share of visits from the groups in the sixties and I would always be there. The Who, The Casuals, Love Affair, Long John Baldry, Marmalade, Dave Clarke 5, I used to reel of hundreds that I had seen but I forget them now.
Thanks for visiting again.
