my field bag

cheap canvas bag from the army/navy surplus store -- i’ve had this thing forever
water for watercoloring
collapsible container to hold water and brushes
Super Deluxe Sketch Book - heavy enough for watercoloring - my favorite nature journaling sketchbook
Field Guide to American Wildlife -- great vintage combo field guide
watercolor set
tins for specimens
double-sided tape
waterproof pens
drawing pencils + kneaded eraser
japanese brush pens
multi-tool with knife, pliers, etc.
whistle
derwent inktense pencils — *awesome* water-soluble colored pencils with intense colors
mini-measuring tape
camera
pencil sharpener
vintage film canister holding photographer’s tape and band-aids.
ziploc bags in this pocket
folded paper towels in this pocket
great idea. & where did you find this?
on clearance at an art store *years* ago -- and it is awesome.
when are you going to show us YOUR nature drawings???
oh nice! that’s like julia child asking when you’re going to bake her a pie. :^)
twins!!
in case of bear attack.
due to my generosity... ;^)

this one is my bag, q.h., and that’s a film camera i bought for a dollar. :^)

jack uses an inexpensive digital camera and sometimes i give him one of those disposable cameras you can buy for a couple of dollars. we have a waterproof digital that's tiny and lightweight; we use it for hiking and kayaking. it doesn’t take particularly good photos, unfortunately, but it’s great for bringing along and not having to worry about getting damp.

it would help if i read the title ;). it's a cool looking camera. it's great to have some images to bring back and then reference for sketches. expensive equipment can = headaches. i love those japanese brush pens, too!

it is a really cool camera. i have a “real” film camera but it is so expensive and bulky with lenses .. this one is so easy to bring along. i'm pretty addicted to those disposable film cameras as well - so light and easy to shove in the backpack when hiking!

i so agree re: expensive equipment!

i am in love with those brush pens. they are the best new art supply i've bought in a long time.

you're giving me so many ideas :)! i don't always take my camera for the same reason. i want to get a small point and shoot, but i'm reluctant to spend the $$. one of those disposables might be good to have on hand. i missed a really nice pic the other day because i didn't have a camera.

i've found cheap disposables with 36 exposures for a couple bucks; they are great to keep in your bag -- so lightweight! and when you finally get them developed, it’s like chrismas.

love this bag!, what kind of watercolor sets are those? I've been looking for something small to carry with me all the time.

thank you, kenialu -- it's a pebeo travel set -- you can pop it apart or just fan open the pans and mixing tray and hold it on your thumb. it's a neat set.

if you are looking for something tiny to have with you everyday, you should check out some of the sets people have made from things like altoid tins -- really inspiring!
