how I use my thumb-rocker switch

In order to view this Flickr video, you'll need to
install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player.
A student was asking about some ergonomic issues, so I thought I'd post a little demo of how I hold the stylus for my Wacom tablet, and specifically how I use the rocker-switch for the second and third buttons.

Note the way the side of my thumb rests lightly against the switch at all times. I press the forward button by putting a tiny amount of pressure on the tip of the thumb, and I press the other one by putting some pressure on the knuckle. Click, click, click, it's easy!

The extra buttons are only really necessary if you're on Linux or Windows.

I bet on a Mac it might be possible to configure those buttons to do things like Ctrl+click or double-click... check your control panel for the tablet, and see what your options are!

hey thanks for the suggestion! I got it set up for one of the buttons to be double-click,witch makes things allot easier for me. I like to block out my animation in flipbook with my tablet and it was always such a pain before when i wanted to select a certain frame, I was always trying to double tap the pen and it usually took a few tries before I was able to grab the frame I wanted... what a waist of time that was! haha!

Yeah, that's my biggest pet peeve about using certain software with the tablet-- some programs will only register a double-click if the two clicks happen on exactly the same pixel, which is pretty much impossible with a stylus!

There should be an option on the control panel for something like "double-click sensitivity", where you can dial in how far apart the two clicks can be in time and/or in pixels before it counts as a double-click.

yeah i have an Intuos3 and even when the double-click sensitivity is on full blast its still somewhat of a challenge for me to do the whole double-clicking thing, as pathetic as that may sound haha! Oh well, problem solved now that I have the button in charge of double-clicking... hooray for the button!!!
