I don't believe this one. How long were you there ?

    8. Jon Cartwright (54 months ago | reply)

Thanks all. I just love the shapes they make.

I was there for about 15 minutes, sambiebaby. I have to take quite a few before I get a composition I like - it can be pretty hit and miss.

Oh my gosh! This is spectacular. You should head down to Brighton to play with the starlings as they come on at sunset to roost on the Pier! These birds love you! (or is it the french fries?)

think this is the best one you've done of these..

how about a pigeon composite in Hockney-stylee?

    19. Jerry Cliff (54 months ago | reply)

How do you focus for these types of shots?

    20. Jon Cartwright (54 months ago | reply)

That's a thought, Charlie. I do have a montage (slowly) in the making that's a variation on this, but I've probably already got the shots for a heavily bird oriented view of Westminster. Hmm...

Jerry, autofocus. 51-point 3D tracking, to be precise. It works pretty well considering what I'm asking it to do, but I've lost a lot of potentially nice pictures by locking on to the background. If there's a way to stop the AF going beyond 3ft, I'd love to know about it.

Outstanding! I'm concerned though about this pigeon thing you've got going on. It'll start out all fun and feathers but a few weeks in...

Re what you said about stopping it autofocusing beyond 3ft - you could try some sort of hyperfocal prefocus?
