Clasped.

Outstanding
Clasped. by Ryan Brenizer.
These are the hands of a principal turning around a troubled NYC school.

I wasted no time with the D3; I shot a magazine feature the fist thing in the morning. I'll leave all the on-topic shots for the publication, but I had to post something. The D3 performed like a champ. Subjects pop out of images with the 24-70, and the 17-35 is an entirely different lens. Flash exposures of all kinds, from bounce to head-on fill, are excellent. Of course, flash is more of a creative choice than a necessity now.

blogjam_dot_org It's got far more fuji-like colors than any Nikon I've used, which I take as a very good thing. A little less pink, a little more yellow, but contrasty as heck. My subjects look like they're jumping out of the frame.

Hot damn I love that 85/1.4 on the D3. And yes, the 17-35 on the D3 has completely different character than it does on the cropped sensors...

See, the thing about the D3 is that it's only as good as the hands operating it. And, fortunately, one has fallen into your hands. The hands of someone who knows what to do with it.

Until the D3 came out I was adamantly in the camp of a good photographer can take great pictures with any camera, which was a great way of making peace with having just a D80. But then the D3 came out, and suddenly there was a reason to lust after more expensive gear. Damn, but this camera should be mine! It will be mine! But how in the world to justify $5K :-(

@tom: It's the wide-angle lenses that make a big difference in use. It is weird to see how shallow the 85's DoF becomes, though. We're not talking about one eye in focus, we're talking about the eye being OOF if you focused on the eyelash.
