Post-Katrina New Orleans: A Piano Forever Silent

Post-Katrina New Orleans: A Piano Forever Silent by Ryan Brenizer.
Please view these photos as a set. I tried to capture different aspects of the New Orleans landscape today, from successes to frustrations, devastation to beignets. The city goes on, especially the tourist district, and I encourage you to go there, have a good time, and spend a lot of money, but the level of governmental neglect and general sorrow astonished me. For an introductory essay, see here.

I likw your documentary approach. Theres a dignity to the approach. Have you experimented with a richer sepia effect? It might harmonise the images a little more for you? Great job!

Ryan great work, this image is likely the sadest and the most poignant. It reminds me of this NPR story about how an Oregon
piano tuner who had tragically lost his son to cancer & went off to NOLAwith is tools and and bought some uprights and other instruments and would offer these to musicians. Flat out give them a piano or a sax or some other well loved and fully functional instrument.
It was one of those pull over I'm losing it driving moments where the radio show & story of how one man went and made a difference for not a whole lot of people , but those he did effect was so incredibly profound. Here I am a grown man weeping on the side of the road listening to this incredible story and after a long search I found it maybe you can see hear what I mean .

THIS picture of yours reminds me of this great RADIO PIECE about what some one chose to do in response to Katrina. (It does have a underwriting tag on the front of the file but it's so worth a listen.

A revisit with Peter Spring checking back in here

Thanks Ryan , your picture reminded of this story, if you can listen to the piece. and thanks for the intro to the set.

It's incredible that almost a year after the situation is still like this in some places. I hope this will change and the zone recovers totally soon. Very good picture, great document!

New Orleans Recovery is a Flickr group designed to organize images of post-Katrina NOLA in an interactive map on an external website to better visualize and aid recovery. We'd love if you would consider adding your image to our group -- with one caveat: if you look at the group page there are a number of stipulations that must be followed for the map to function. If you know the location of your image and would like to join, please do so!

Wonderful photograph.

I visited New Orleans before Katrina and it was such a vibrant and energetic city. It's sad to see how badly it was affected by the hurricane.
