Bauhaus - Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash

Murphy and Ash fought their way through their concert at the Tivoli.

Murphy refused to sing centre stage. He sat down on the right side of the stage for most of the show. I was impressed with his presence, it was very obvious that had he lifted a finger, he would have been mesmerising. But he barely moved a muscle and did not acknowledge the audience. He moved to the back of the stage and sang from there, eventually ending up sitting down on the drum raise. I was in second row and could barely see him for most of the time.

They stopped after barely an hour, claiming 'guitar' problems. (read: ego problems).

I had never seen Bauhaus before and I thought they sounded great. Did not believe the 'guitar problem' story for one bit, although it did malfunction very early on in the set. But I could see the dirty looks between the members of the band, and Murphy was angry with David J during the 2nd or 3rd song, telling him he was playing it wrong.

After a long wait, a member of the Tivoli crew said there was 'trouble in the band' and that the gig was over. People started booing and throwing beer at the stage. The guy said not to blame him, blame the band and then fled the stage. Seconds later, the band returned to play what may have been the last ever Bela Lugosi's Dead (during which this picture was taken).

On the Bauhaus forum fans speculate the band may have split after the show.

    Oh dear.

We saw them in San Francisco last year, and they were brilliant, but I wasn't sure it would hol out. :(

Bluer than blue...great capture Caroline in some tough (but beautiful) lighting conditions.
