After the second day of apocalyptic white-outs -- flying, stinging, choking, blinding dust -- and rain, a rarity indeed, the playa was graced with a spectacular double-rainbow Friday afternoon.

This photo was shot from the top of an RV in the Red Nose District, 9:15 and Esplanade in Black Rock City. To the right you can see left side of the Cirque Berzerk Big Top.

Nope, it was posted from a coffee shop in Seattle -- I'm working with Vau de Vire Society at Bumbershoot, so left the playa early...

Loop!Station is on in 3 minutes, so I'd better get back to work...

It was my first burn and one of my favorite things was how people cheered/applauded at beautiful natural phenomena. I was in my tent and heard a round of cheers, ran out to see what all the fuss was about and caught the double bow. So lovely.

My first thought when I saw it was: "Stupid rainbow." I had been furiously packing for a few hours, as the dust storm had seriously hindered my ability to do so earlier in the day. I looked again a few minutes later, though, and actually noticed it in its entirety. Then I booked it to the top of an RV.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

great shot of the double rainbow.

by the way, i think i met you in the 'chill' tent at red nose district... i was with my friend mark, a photographer, and we were talking to his friend suzanne, who climbs the silks... you came up and introduced yourself to mark (and then me). does that sound familiar to you...? :)

What a coincidence... yes indeed, I recognized Mark as one of the photographers at Sue and Kevin's wedding outside of San Diego and thought I'd say hullo! (Suzanne and Kevin are the ringmasters of Cirque Berzerk).

'Twas a pleasure to meet you, and glad you like the photo :)

Such an amazing pic. Way better than the ones I took. I was so in shock as this was happening w/ another first time burner and everyone around us cheering. Incredible how the colors kept intensifying every second. Truly one of the most beautiful things we'd all ever seen. Thanks for this picture!
