We went looking for solutions to keep Zoe from falling out of bed. For the past couple days she's rolled off onto the cushions we've positioned next to her bed. Bed rails look to be a minimum $40 investment and go as high as $80.
Our hack was to use a pool noodle and a blanket.
1. Lay the end of a blanket perpendicular across the bare bed with most of the blanket hanging off the side of the bed.
2. Fold it in half so both ends lay across the bed with the fold hanging over the exposed side
3. Slide a pool noodle into the fold
4. Roll the noodle and blanket up under, tucking in the bottom to prevent it from unrolling.
5. Pull the fitted sheet over the whole thing.
The weight of the child should be on the ends of the blanket that lay across the bed.
