Lufthansa's A340-300 arriving in Montreal after a long flight from Munich. D-AIMF is now flying for Air Namibia in Africa.
*Airplanes 101* (See Airplanes 101 Set)
Name: Airbus A340 (A340-200, A340-300, A340-500, A340-600)
Manufacturer: Airbus Industries Europe (France/Germany)
Main Role: High capacity, long - very long range mainline jetliner
Basic design: Four engined, double aisle wide body jet. Airframe based
on the A300.
Capacity: Roughly Between -200: 260-300 pax , -300: 300-335 pax, -500:
315 pax, -600: 375 passengers
Range: 13800km for A340-200, 12400km for A340-300, 15700km for
A340-500, 13700km for A340-600
First delivery date: 1993 (A340-300), 1992 (A340-200), 2002
(A340-500), 2002 (A340-600)
Still in production in 2006: Yes
Easily confused for: Airbus A330, IL-86, IL-96, DC-8, 707
Main idenifying points: Look for the "Airbus" cockpit
windows, four engines (small ones on the -200/-300 series, more
standard looking larger ones on the -500/-600 series), large upward
swept winglets & a classic Airbus tail & tailcone. Other than
the 747 and IL86/96 it's one of the few 4-engined wide body jets
around. If it has 4 engines and no hump on the front it's more than
likely an A340. The IL86/96 is less common and is quite similar in
shape but they have a very high pointy tail and a short less
pronounced aircone and are flown almost exclusively by Russian
airlines. The A340-500/600 both have a 4 wheeled middle undercarriage
along wth the ones under each wing. The A340-600 has the longest
fuselage of any standard airliner so hard to not identify.
Examples of Main Operators: Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Cathay
Pacific, China Airlines, Iberia, Philippine Airlines, Olympic, SAS,
Lufthansa, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Virgin
Atlantic, TAP, South African, Air Jamaica, BWIA en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Airbus_A340_operators

Saw Scully Levin (one of the world's best pilots) do two low and slow, dirty fly-pasts and an incredible Vx climb at the Ysterplaat Airshow. Impressive to see him handle this monster like a small jet. Check my set for some pics!

one42chrisp Thanks Chris!
Thomas Becker Do we really need a 4th Flickr group for Lufthansa?? Anyways, I added it. Thanks for the invite.
oliverkong@yahoo.com.cn Thanks!

caribb, please do me a favour: click on "groups" and search for "Lufthansa". Then tell me which group is listed first...and have a look inside to see why it is different! Thanks!

Hey Thomas, thanks. Congrats on nr.1. I thought it was a new group. There are so many duplications of some themes here... kinda waters down the effect especially when we could do so many variants on one theme. Anyways, success with the group and thanks for the invite!
