NH JA8962 747-481 by caribb.
Backed out and ready to leave for another journey.. In a weeks time one of it's destinations would be a charter flight to Montreal which flew over my home.. It seems like I made a lot of interesting aviation connections throughout this trip or perhaps I'm just reading too much into it.. but still cool.

ANA 747s are retiring from international routes...
Oh, ANA just announced that their telephone numbers will no longer be toll-free, and it is introducing series of options services that was offered for AMC DIA members for free but for everyone who is willing to pay for that service... 5000yen for lounge access, 1800 yen for premium class meal for economy passengers and so on... It may be a good move for ANA seeking profitable portion of their service to survive.
(I am losing DIA status so I will probably miss these extra services...)

Hey Bob,thanks! Yep, probably still is today LOL..
hirosan - interesting.. nice moves actually. Gives people more choice. Losing the toll free numbers must be an effort to force everyone onto their website. In some ways it makes sense especially if they see the numbers of people using the phone line decline (if that is the case). I can see North American airlines jumping onto that bandwagon really fast. at Air Canada It's almost impossible to get a live human on the phones other than for making reservations and even then you are directed to websites several times before a human being talks to you.. it's really impersonal but being impersonal in the 21st century seems to be the norm as kids are growing up with it and accepting it as their standard. Still though financially seems like a good move for ANA, it's what makes them a successful airline. Now when are they going to fly to Montreal beyond the occasional seasonal charter flight??! LOL

This ANA B744 reminds me of... one of my long haul flights across the Pacific.. NRT-JFK back in mid 90s. Now seems to be that thing has been changed. B777 are used as equipments for transpacific route. Not only does ANA, but also any other airlines such as United, EVA, an Japan Airlines operate B777, instead of B744, on this route as far as I know.

one42chrisp - Thanks!
Phongphat - The 747s are all slowly being retired.. With today's fuel prices it's generally cheaper to fly the same number of people long haul on two engines rather than four... so the 777s are more efficient and have newer technologies embedded in them. The 747 is technically a 1960s born aircraft that's been modified over the years. The A380 & A340-600s are the only exceptions but they too are much newer aircraft with weight savings and technical innovations that make them cheaper to fly. So as much as I love the 747 it's going to the sidelines unless the passenger version of the new 747-8 miraculously takes off.

Israel D - Thanks very much! From my experience I've only had issues taking pictures on flights with American carriers and once with Air Canada on a flight from the USA. Intra Europe, the Caribbean and Between Europe or Asia haven't been a problem ever. In the US there is a FAA ruling regarding taking pictures in/ from the aircraft. Both Northwest & Air Canada flight attendants have asked me to stow my camera on landing (AC argues it's a safety issue, Northwest strangely claims it's an electronic device and could itnerfere with flight deck operations...I'm still scratching my head on that one). In Air Canada's case (a one time event only) the F/A literally came to me when she decided I had had enough time and took my camera from me and stowed it in the overhead bin. But.. that's typical Air Canada cabin crew behavior.. they are kings & queens of the cabin and we're their mere mortals they sell stuff to. LOL.. Unless you are travelling to or from (or within) the USA I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Just be discreet and don't disturb the passengers (flash, blatant face shots etc). Lots of people take pictures on planes and if it's not excessive it's really not an issue.
