ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ..........

Looks like noisy fellow, snoring I guess :p
*Airplanes 101* MD-80 - large luggage bins. This can vary per airline but these appear to be standard for those MD-80s I've flown
*Airplanes 101* MD-80 - seating is 3x2, a somwhat unique feature for a mainline airliner.
*Airplanes 101* MD-80 - the back bulkhead of the MD-80 is very squared off at the ceiling in this manner.
*Airplanes 101* MD-80: The above panel controls are very sparse compared to the MD-11
*Airplanes 101* MD-80 - notice the lack of lights here compare to Airbus and other Boeing aircraft.

Another over the shoulder shot... passengers asleep very shortly after take off on American's MD-80 N9617R. I guess the whole seating process wore everyone out.

*Airplanes 101* (See Airplanes 101 Set)
Name: McDonnell Douglas MD-80
Manufacturer: McDonnell Douglas (Now Boeing) (USA)
Main Role: Medium capacity, medium range mainline jetliner
Basic design: twin engined rear mounted, single aisle narrowbody jet. Airframe based on the DC-8/9.

I think everyone is asleep due to the lulling silence in the forward section of an MD-80 cabin.

Thanks everyone... it is pretty quiet up front on the MD-80s... and we did just battle our way through O'Hare...

Typically packed. I remember flying in the early 80s where often the load factor was just 50%.

Has the kind of a long haul flight feel to it...!

mothergrinninbird - US flights to and from Montreal aren't usually full from my experience except at key hours like this one. Canadians and Americans have been less eager to go to each other's country since the Iraq war.

marcopolovoyager_2001 - It does.. for a 2 1/2 hour flight :-)

Because when I was a kid, we used to fly at lot in MD-80s and DC-9s, the 3-2 seating was the most familiar to me. So when I was first encountered 3-3 seating in a narrowbody plane, it was a bit odd for me! :D

What airline is this? I've never seen LCD fold-down screens on a MD-80 ever before! (That's what that square is in the ceiling panel with the buttons). I would have guessed it was a MD-90, but the only MD-90s I know of have 2-3 seating, not 3-2. Just curious... -J

jayo Z - It's an American Airlines MD-80. I don't think those squares are fold down screens. There were non operational on that flight. I enjoyed the plane though, it was a nice flight.

There are lights on the sidewall. It is up to the individual airline if they choose to activate them or not. But the wiring is there, as are the switches. Some airlines have placed covers over the fixtures though.

Moody75 - Thanks. It pops up in several places. Nice that people use it :-)
n717jg - Thanks for the info. Same for 777 personal air vents. Available on AC but not available on BA unless the -200 is different from the -300. I guess in this case the direct lighting might be a bit strong, or, it's just more costly to add the weight and expense.
