Pizzica!

I was at a conference in Otranto, in the Salento, the Southernmost part of Puglia/Apulia, Italy's heel.

One night a fine group of performers gave us a taste of Pizzica, a traditional dance, part of the Tarantella family. (See it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizzica, and Pizzica Express, a Guardian article.)

Nice capture of the moment. Her smile, the concentration of the musicians.

I celebrated new year's eve last year with a large group of (friends of) friends in Italy, one of whom taught me these dances... loved it, great fun, and what a way to dance away the demons of the new year!

Great shot, Andreas. Nice of them to coordinate their colours for you. Perfect timing.

I feel that this picture is very original and out of the common (i mean exceptional, not out of the common of Otranto, (excuse me if i'm kidding). (from the Feel Me, Post Me! group)

Grazie Fede! Un altro aspetto affascinante della tua terra...

Grazie theONLYaldebaran, e' stata una splendida serata, la musica e la danza erano contagiose.

Thanks Driek, the dancer in particular was truly mesmerizing. You are right, these dances have something to do with rituals of the kind you describe. And are great fun, of course!

      Thanks mimi! Grazie Aquilant ;o)

I love the way her back eruptes from the hips...as a long rose´s stem.
She could dance without the musiciens..
in an eternal patting of the earth
      with her beautiful feet.
