Hawaii State Capitol (Honolulu, Hawaii)![]() ![]() A view of the Hawaii State Capitol in Honolulu. Designed in a collaboration between John Carl Warnecke and Belt, Lemmon & Lo, the building is an example of Hawaiian international architecture, an American adaptation of the Bauhaus style. The capitol stands adjacent to Iolani Palace, which served as the capitol from statehood until the completion of the current structure. The capitol is surrounded by a reflecting pool, symbolizing the Pacific Ocean, with the rotunda opening to the sky. Both legislative chambers are cone-shaped, symbolizing the volcanoes which formed the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaii State Capitol, completed in 1969, is part of the Hawaii Capital Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
