Pittsfield Hot Air Balloon Festival
Update..... (I'm posting this version along with the original that was
invited to show in "Flickr In Full Color" so it's possible
to see the difference when I reworked the photo.)

This is from a series of photos I took at a hot air balloon rally that
occurs every year. One of the more colorful, enjoyable events locally
that is a must for photographers.... and it works so nicely with the
river right next to the field where they lift off.
The next time is in late July. I'll post a few more of them for you to
see and perhaps you can give me some critique and suggestions. They
have a photo contest each year to pick out the best shot to use for
next year's pamphlet. I've been planning to do it. Maybe I'll try it
this year.

An update on this photo and my plans to take more pics there...
unfortunately, plans changed about getting there this year but there's
always the future... to get back and take more pics.
Well, as has been discussed... with Chris, Lisa and Tony... and I
unearthed the original, lol... I worked on it a bit more and I'm quite
pleased with the results. There are some "specks" of white
on the surface from being a scanned photo and some I've
"removed" which improves it's appearance, as well. I can see
now how much my skills have improved and the photo, as well. TY so
much for the comments and help, my Flickr friends.

TY, photographerwannab, the balloon basket had just touched (kissed) the surface as I took this shot. They lift back up once they get further across. Thanks again.

thanks for the description! very neat shot. i think having the reflections show the entire balloon (but not have the entire balloon in the photo as you do here) would be more effective. that way you can see a reflection of what you are missing outside the frame. nice composition but i think you need a bit of a contrast boost here. great eye!

TY so much, Lisa, on your observations. Thankfully, I will be able to go back and keep your suggestions in mind. I do agree with you that it would be better if I had the full reflection in the picture. These first photos I put in my photostream I did very little to improve on them. I know sharpness is needed but I'll also try to improve the contrast. One question. Can I actually work on that and put the improved picture in here in place of this one?

I agree with Lisa about the contrast of the colours, Ricca. This photo is actually my fave :-) I like the compo of this shot as it makes me want to see more...and learn more about the place where you guys have this balloon ride too..hehehe
The vibrant ballon colouse against the dull background is quite effective. However, the overall colour contrast tends to look less exciting ( I'm not sure what other words should be used) hahha... I guess if you increase the contrast as to enrich the green(the background) as well as the colourful balloon then, this is going to be a very eye-catchy piece for a print-ad, Ricca

if you play with the contrast in a post processing program (PS or something) you can actually replace this photo (under additional information to the lower right of the photo) and you can upload the new contrasted version in its place (if you want to).

To TonyDixon. I'm curious to check further with this photo. I put this in here quite some time back and knew little about what I could do to prepare it for viewing. I agree and think it's time to go back and work on it again. Also, I took this photo with a fairly simple point and shoot 35mm camera, not a digital camera so this is a scanned photo. I'll be curious to try improving it now. I checked back and found the original... so off I go, lol.
