Valley of the Ten Peaks
Explore - July 13th, 2009
(I know this looks very similar to my Avalanche Lake picture, but that wasn't intentional)
This is Moraine Lake, which sits in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. It is a group of ten mountains that crown the valley. All ten peaks are over 10 000 feet. It was featured on the back of the 1970 and 1978 issues of the $20 bill, thus gaining the name "Twenty Dollar View". The turquoise colour is due to refraction of light off ot the rock/glacial flour that is brought into the lake from the glaciers. This is probably my favourite lake.
So, I had an unfortunate accident up where this was taken. I did post the original account here, but it was too long, so if you want to read that go here - www.maplesfortunes.com/2009/07/13/adventures-at-moraine-l...
In short, I fell off of a rock and landed on my back on the sharp edge of a big boulder. In the process of falling, I threw my camera up into the air and it came crashing down to the rocks below. It really hurt, but I wasn't seriously injured. My friends that I was with came over and were asking if I was okay and if I had broken anything. The first thing I said was “how is the camera?” My cousin from Australia, Dean, went over and picked it up and said it looked fine. I asked about the lens and he brought it over and showed me. It was perfectly fine. I was rather relieved and quite shocked. I expected something to have broken after the fall it took. There isn't even a scratch on it. It is one tough camera.

Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
This is my new car that I bought this week. It is a 2003 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. It is really fun to drive. I bought this instead of the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8. While this was substantially more, I think it was a better purchase. I know this isn't the best picture. Sorry. Hopefully, I can get some better ones later.

Avalanche Gorge
Avalanche Gorge was spectacular.
The hike up to the lake was awesome, especially along the gorge. If you just do the "Trail of the Cedars", you will miss out on a lot of really cool stuff. Even if you just go up the Avalanche Lake Trail a little ways, you will get way cooler views of the gorge then if you just look at it from the bridge.

twentysomething
Nothing special. Move along, there is nothing to see here.
Oh, and I did end up getting the 50mm f/1.8 like two weeks ago. Haven't had much chance to use it though. This is taken with it.

Avalanche Lake
To be honest, I was not all that impressed with the lake itself. Avalanche Gorge was way cooler. That's not to say, however, that the hike wasn't worth it. It is just that I have seen cooler/more stunning mountain lakes.
