Alhambra patterns

love these...they give a great optical illusion to the central pattern, of depth and prominence. Also, of course, they are eight-pointers themselves...

Granada, Spain. Detail of classic Islamic geometric patterns from The Alhambra. This is from the famous Court of the Lions, which has some of the most sophisticated geometric patterns in the world. I hardly need point out the eight point star at the heart of this design:-)
