port

port by Muffet.
Years ago, friends gave a New Year's Eve party and served port. I had never had it before, but I loved it instantly. Now I keep it in my house. I buy decent port--not the $80 bottle variety, but not the brown paper bag variety either. Sometimes, when I feel the need for something special, I pour it into a small crystal glass and savor its appearance as well as its taste. R.L. Stevenson said, "Wine is bottled poetry." He must have been writing about port.

Ah yes, there's nothing so comforting as a mellow glass of port.

Nice still life - I LOVE PORT, and this looks delicious. Nice job of getting the rich amber red against the complimentary green....and I like the clarity of the crystal details. :-)

Thanks, everyon! This was taken for a Utata project. The weekend was rainy, and the blurred background is the wet screen of my sliding door with leaves behind. The nice glow comes from a flashlight I lay on the table, since at first the room was too gloomy to get a picture.
This is tawny port, by the way. I may try this again with ruby!

I fully agree with your description and love of port, I've tried to get nice pictures such as this as well, but I need classier port glasses! ;)

I tried taking a similar picture with a glass of ruby port and it didn't work at all...it was too dark. The light never penetrated as completely as it did here. Lucky for me I had one swig left of tawny, I guess.
