Lady In Red

Lady In Red

A bit of a different shot of St. Nicholas Port on the East coast of Zakynthos. A small town with a busy harbour as boats come and go to various places. Seems quite a relaxing place with a beach and a couple of small restaurants.

Couldn’t resist this when I spotted the girl in the red dress. Converted to black and white then deselected the red dress. I like this effect and am aware that not everyone will...

The Road to Nowhere

The Road to Nowhere

On the road to the Vassilikos peninsula, one of the most beautiful parts of the island. The winding road climbs into the mountains as you drive away from Zakynthos Town and Argassi. You pass the odd taverna and gas station as things become more and more isolated and unspoilt until you reach the bottom of the island where you can laze around on the deserted beaches.

If you are visiting the island I would highly recommend hiring a car. It was great fun and we ended up in some fantastic places. Just make sure you have your wits about you and do not under any circumstances trust any of the maps you can pick up. Use you instincts!

Vasilikos Peninsula Information

Obviously this image has had the full whack in terms of post processing. Three images tweaked in Lightroom, tonemapped in Photomatix and finishing touches in Photoshop.

Shipwreck Bay

Shipwreck Bay

I love the simplicity of this photograph. It is one of my favourites from our trip to the Greek Island.

This is Navagio Beach or Shipwreck Bay on the island of Zakynthos. The photograph was taken from boat as we approached the shore.

Navagio Beach

Very little post processing needed here. The colours are so beautiful in this part of the world that everything should be left as I saw it. I guess it needed straightening slightly, but what photos taken from an 800bhp speedboat wouldn’t.

Time to Reflect

Time to Reflect

The best photos happen by accident... That is what I think anyway... sometimes!

After pulling over for a break just outside the town in our trusty Suzuki Jimny my girlfriend and I spotted this wonderful view in my wing mirror. Zakynthos Town, which we had just left behind, framed perfectly in the gleaming glass mirror.

A quick shot with the Canon IXUS 70, a rock of a camera, which still churns out a tidy photograph at several years old. Post processing done in Photoshop, a bit of selective saturation adjustment which I think finishes off the image very nicely.

Navagio

Navagio

Navagio Beach is an isolated cove on Zakynthos island and one of the most famous beaches in Greece. It is notable because it is home to the wreck of the ship Panagiotis.

You hear many different stories of how the boat came to rest perfectly on this sandy bay but legend has it that smugglers with contraband on board the boat came in to trouble on the stormy seas in 1983 and after a fire and much damage the boat washed ashore onto the beach before the smugglers climbed the cliffs and escaped onto the island.

Whether this is folklore, a convenience for tourists like myself who flock here each year or indeed whether the story is genuine remains a mystery. Not that it is important, there are some great photos to be had here, either from a boat trip to the beach or from the viewing platform high above.
