Ut oh - this litte Athena is defective.

week 33 of the 52

The race is on. South Korean biotech company, RNL Bio recently became the first company to commercially clone a dog for a private citizen.

What next? How long before it's humans? How do YOU feel about cloning?

I think one of me is all this planet needs. Those of you who know me, no doubt agree! lol

xx

**This is not a photoshop trick - what you are seeing is light bouncing off the background and being refracted through the droplets on this little spiral. Shot with a macro lens and two handheld speed lights. **

Thank you so much. :)

Lushpup - The real me was actually standing behind the camera. I took and printed a photo of myself and used that behind the droplets. ;o)

airencracken - I bet a lot of people won't see this one because they don't realize what it is. :( But ya know, of all my 52, this is probably the one I'd most likely print. lol

Cool shot, Athena! I love the idea of using a picture behind your drops for the refracted image.

As for cloning? Well, I was a genetics major in a previous life, and I think it's inevitable that human cloning is coming. However, I don't think it will be the Aldous Huxley nightmare that everyone envisions. Most likely it will start as high end infertility treatment and may broaden to other areas of medicine. Is there potential for abuse? Sure. But the technology is also the starting point for a lot of potentially wonderful medical therapies. Hopefully we're smart enough to use it wisely . . .

Russ - woah, genetics heh? Awesome. I hope you are right that we as people can be wise enough to exercise some control because I agree that in the knowledge and the technology that will come from it, there are some immense benefits.

Oolong - lol I agree.

Llum Endins - thank you for looking and commenting.

Cloning? Scary, but that's most likely because I'm ignorant of most of the facts. Still, so many moral implications and dilemas. Also seemingly inevitable, just like Russ said.

Absolutely amazing image and an instant fave!
Not a fan of the idea of cloning whole people, but the use of the technology to potentially grow transplant parts which would eliminate the risk of organ rejection would be a brilliant thing, especially given the shortage of donors in the first place.

Very arty, great idea. If you rotate it CCW 90 degrees it's a 9, if CW 90 degrees it's a 'G'
