old: Mac Pro monitors shot by mitch haile.
FAQ: http://www.biscade.com/office/

Mac Pro (behind the desk) with 6 monitors. Keyboard here is also a Kinesis Freestyle with a custom length cord between the two halves. The monitors from left to right are: ViewSonic VP191b 19", two HP LP2065 20", Apple 30", and two HP LP2065 20". The Mac Pro has 3 x 2600 video cards. Most of the DVI cables are 24 AWG from Monoprice.

Updated 31-Oct-2008: Made a nice desktop background from a 21600 x 21600 NASA image. I don't know why, I never actually _see_ my desktop, but it's pretty cool. Here's the original image file (doesn't open in Firefox for me; it's 22 MB): veimages.gsfc.nasa.gov//7100/world.topo.bathy.200401.3x21...

Yep--I stole the idea from your pictures, actually. You had already done the hard work of figuring out what to mate with the Apple 30"; I just had to order 4 of them. They were tough to find in stock and the last time I looked, the price on them has gone up.

My HP displays are mounted on Ergotron DS100 stands I bought a few years back. I'm using one of the HP stands on the ViewSonic display and another HP stand on the 24" Gateway--the HP stands use less desk space.

Ice bucket and mini wine decanter are my favourite accessories here. Or is that a vase?

Thanks. It's a carafe, 52 oz I believe. I suppose it *could* be used as a vase for very light weight flowers.

He had to know everyone would comment about the lotion, it seems that I am the only one to notice he has a SECOND bottle of lotion on the other desk! The ultimate porn rig necessitates a lotion bottle every 3.4 feet.

I will admit 2 bottles of lotion is pretty embarrassing, but at least no one has seen the third bottle! ;-)

Heya. how much did you spend on ripping out the attic? like with plastering and wiring and fans ETC?
Cheers
LOVE THE SETUP!

mitch haile says:

It was fairly cheap. I've learned that contractor rates vary quite a bit from area to area, and it's hard to say exactly what was spent on the office because I did the whole house. But the attic work included new walls, ceiling, insulation, vaulting the ceiling, new fans, new lights, all new wiring, the sub panel, Ethernet drops, put down a new floor in half of the room, sanding the floor, stain, poly, drywall, plaster, paint, trim, the doors. It sounds like a lot--and it was--but I think my contractors gave me pretty good pricing. This has been a pretty slow year for them (as of April).

Obviously I am dodging the question, but I will say if you can afford a pretty high end system that you spend a lot of time working at, it's worth checking into the cost of remodeling the room you use it in. You might be surprised. After years of "making do" with terrible office situations, this has been a nice change.

Thanks for the reply,
What do you do?
It seems to be a pretty good job as you got the mac pro imac and macbook All the monitors ETC and you said you work at home.
Ive seen on one of your comments your a software programmer or something but what actually is it?
Looks to me like you only use the terminal app in Mac OSX but i could be wrong.
Thanks

Yeah I telecommute. Right now I am working on a start-up project in California (but live in Boston). I do some consulting on the side, but not much.

I use am a Terminal user--the "Mac apps" that I use also include X11, BBedit, Eclipse, Photoshop. I use VMware harder than anything else, but most of the heavy lifting is happening on the non-Mac machines. I am running half a dozen VMs on the Mac Pro, but sadly, Fusion 1.x has some serious bugs in the network and disk drivers that prevent me from using it for serious work. Mostly I have Windows 2003 and 2008 on the Mac VMs. I haven't upgraded to Fusion 2 on the Mac Pro because I'm in the middle of a project right now.

I'm really a unix programmer (most of the time anyway), just happen to use a Mac to front-end to the unix boxes.

HP LP2065s. Excellent screens. They use the same LG/Philips panels as the Apple 30-inch Cinema. A perfect match. I've got one on my 3-screen Mac Pro setup -- it used to be portrait, but I've moved it to landscape is it now does double duty as a screen to an XP box for (mainly emulation-based) gaming.

One thing that drives me crazy is different vertical resolutions. I want to replace the 19" 1280-high portrait display with another 1600 tall display.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I stole the HP model idea from blakespot.

mitch haile says:

@blakespot Yep, without your pictures last year[?] I would not have this display set-up. You did the hard work of figuring out what panel would match the 30" Apple. Before this I was running 2x24" with 2x17 portraits. It was a little cramped but without knowing how to proceed to a 1600 pixel vertical, I wasn't going to upgrade--I just didn't have the time to research it. Then I found your pictures on MacNN or MacRumors (or somewhere) and it became clear. Thanks! :-)

PLEASE follow this technique...

www.ipodhacks.com/article.php?sid=2607

And take a short video of iTunes visualizing across all six screens! At least a static photo if you've not got the equipment to do a quick vid.

I've gotta see that. :-)

@blakespot I messed around with it a few minutes. I'm not sure it's the greatest shots of iTunes ever, but here's a few I snapped: flickr.com/photos/bwa32/sets/7215760882911879 6/

I didn't have time to futz with SnapzPro or whatever--performance sucks anyway, given that one of the monitors is on the 4x bus.

Also, the left-most monitor is not calibrated the same as the others (on purpose).
