@rivadock - I try to keep the camera out of the ocean as much as possible ; ) But seriously, the only thing that gets wet is the tripod legs, which are aluminum, so they're fine. I clean all the sand out of the tripod joints regularly.

I hear ya about the tripods getting sandy. But just part of the job. I like the sunset on this one. I think ya really nailed it. And the exposure wasn't too long; you can actually see the water standing still at the bottom.

I love how you stopped that rock in motion...must have been shooting on a really fast shutter speed and fast ISO. Those fast rocks are tough to photograph! Nice work. He's sure splashing around in the water, having fun. Rocks need to have fun sometimes, yah know. Let loose, relax. Run around!

watch out for the tripod joints - mine seized up on me because the screws were corroded (i have the twist type though, not the flip type).

Yeah, mine are the twisties, too... they're nice and greased up, though, so I'm not too worried. The 3001 legs will soon be replaced by a 3021pro set, though... my back is tired of leaning over the viewfinder...

I raised the contrast and saturation a bit, and brightened the rock with a layer mask. But for the most part, it's an original shot.

@Aaron - I am a strong advocate of cheap GND filters. This is one area of photography where you really don't need to spend the extra. Cokin's P series is a great value - you can get a kit with the holder, adapter ring, and three GND's for under $40.

The expensive GND's were important back in the film days, when slight color shifts could ruin a photo. But if you shoot digital, the slight color shifts that cheap GND's (may or may not) exhibit are no problem at all. And as far as other aspects of image quality, I've never seen a decrease in sharpness from the Cokins, and I can't think of any other impact a cheap GND might have.

All that said, I DON'T recommend going cheap on polarizing filters - buy the best you can afford to get the best results and avoid ugly color casts (worse than any off-brand GND I've seen).
