great shot burnblue. i got a question. i've been fooling around with long exposures and strobes. how do you keep the subject solid in a long exposure with a strobe? whenever i try-using myself as a subject-i've tried using rear sync flash and then flash at the beginning of the exposure and both ways i get a faded subject (meaning you can see through me). what am i doing wrong? i've tried different powers on the strobe as well. tips appreciated. thanks!

Really thought-provoking! Like he's building a cage for himself of light. The color really grabs the eye, too. A+!!!

Cactus... I'm going to have to look those up. If they're cheaper than PW2's, then I'm going to have to pick some up. Love the result here.

      Thanks, everyone!

@Amla - there are two ways to keep the subject solid. One is to shoot against a dark background and only keep the shutter open briefly. That is what I did here - this was only an 8 second exposure, which didn't allow enough light to strike the background to make it as bright or brighter than the person.

The second way (and the only way I know of if you're using a nice long exposure time/bright background) is to combine two or more shots in Photoshop.

thanks burnblue, makes sense if you understand light and exposure. i shot long exposures in complete darkness of my room and came out with better results. even tried strobe colored gels (cheap art store colored acetate paper) thanks!
