LinkedIn: Profile Completeness

Care to recommend me on LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/sbooth to help me complete my profile?

One thing I've been very bad at doing is asking people for recommendations or quotes or endorsements or things like that. Feel free to contribute (no pressure).

LinkedIn profile completeness is arbitrary: it's currently asking me to fill in another position to make it more "complete", but what if I don't *have* another position?

(I'm the same way with asking for recommendations: even though I *believe* my accomplishments should be self-evident, I know intellectually that in order for things to get noticed, people need to sing my praises. It's hard to get over what I believe in order to do what I know I have to do.)

I'm with you on that one. I've never directly asked anybody to write a recommendation for me (other than here, and maybe once on Twitter, mentioning that I'd have to do it) -- and so I have near to zero testimonials, recommendations, etc.

I feel that one should not have to ask for this kind of thing, but then, "everybody" does -- don't they? -- and if I look at my behavior, I see that I don't go around writing testimonials for my friends and business partners either, unless they ask me.

There's something a little artificial about the whole testimonial/reference business, isn't there?
