gah!
you're right! ring-around-the-tuna it's
gonna be from now on!
my biggest question is this--is it
unflavored gelatin that's been tinted or is that lime jello and tuna?!

Well, turn to page 65 of your brand new
"Joys of Jell-O" cookbook ...
(Yes, the recipe calls for either Lime or
Lemon-Lime. Yum!)

That looks so wonderfully disgusting. It's
like someone was, you know, sick in a jelly
mold just after quaffing a pack of gelatine,
and then decided to just refrigerate it
rather than clean up.
And then put some cubes made out of
radishes around the edge.
Genius.

And lobstar, thanks for the link! I've seen

And yet there they are ... who thought this
would be a good idea?
Interesting note: apparently Mormons love Jell-O. Maybe "Ring Around the Tuna"
comes to us from the "Jello Belt?"
Really, someone needs to come up with a
recipe that incorporates Spam, Velveeta and
Jell-O ...

Hey, don't knock it. Green jello is the
state food of Minnesota. Jello, bars and
hotdish. You find tons of recipes for this
stuff in old Lutheran Church cookbooks.
"Yah, Lena...nice jello mold you got
there!"

Well here's the recipe--somebody should make
this and post photos:
Ring Around The Tuna
"A beautiful jewel-like entree salad
for your luncheon or buffet table"
1 package (3 oz.) Jell-O Lime or Lemon
Gelatin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons grated onion
1/2 cup diced cucumber
1/2 cup diced celery*
2 tablespoons chopped pimiento*
2 tablespoons sliced stuffed olives
1 can (7 oz.) tuna, drained and flaked
*Or reduce celery to 1/4 cup and substitute
1/2 cup chopped tomato for the pimiento
Dissolve Jell-O Gelatin and salt in boiling
water. Add cold water, vinegar and onion.
Chill until very thick. Stir in remaining
ingredients. Pour into individual ring molds
or a 1-quart ring mold. Chill until firm.
Unmold on crisp salad greens. If desired,
serve with additional tuna and top salads
with mayonnaise. Makes 3-2/3 cups, or about 4
entree servings.

Sure. Now I just need some Lutherans to test
it on. Hee heeee.
At work they eat ANYTHING. I wonder if
this would be consumed? The funny this is
what if it really tastes good? I mean it
sounds kind of gross, but hmmm...who knows.
I'll save this as a fav and make it this
weekend. I think I actually have all the
ingredients on hand. oops...don't have
radishes. Stay tuned. Or should I say
"stay tuna'd"???

I guarantee you Utah is the biggest consumer
of green jello. Lutherans have nothing on Mormons in this regard and I speak from
experience, having been both and consumed the
green jello recipes of both.
So popular is this wretched snack there wasan official green jello pin for the 2002 Olympics in SLC.

well you know, i'm just wondering if lime
jello in the 50s was a different level of
flavor intensity and sweetness than lime of
today. i mean one can almost imagine tuna,
celery, cucumber, olives with a squirt of
ReaLime©...

I just read that link. Interesting.
Jello mold is almost set. I used chunk
light tuna and it was not as
"chunky" as the above pic looks.
I'm sure it won't do any harm to the taste.
Let's just say that right now my fridge
smells like a giant vat of lime jello and
stinky tuna.
