Fact one:
Since June 13th, flickr users with a yahoo account based in Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong and Korea can't turn off their SafeSearch filter any more.
Safe filter
Which means that where you did see grey pictures before and got asked, if you really want to see them and stay there or rather see the kittens you will now see simply nothing or if you are lucky, you will at least get a grey picture and when you click on it you will getthis. They are gone. Out of your sight.

Fact two:
Regarding to flickr staff, this is because of: quote from Heather (flickr staff):
"The central problem is that Germany has much more stringent age verification laws than its neighboring countries and specifies much harsher penalties, including jail time, for those with direct responsibility (in our case, it would be our colleagues in the German offices and we're not willing to make a call that has that kind of consequence for them)."

Fact three:
Up to now, they didn't quote the passage in said German law to clarify what exactly they mean
The law can be found here in German:
Jugendschutzgesetz
and the whole law as pdf

Fact four:
You can't switch the settings in your yahoo account from any country to the US. Well, you can, but it will not change a thing.

Fact five:
You can start a new US based yahoo account though and merge it with your flickr account.
Doesn't solve the issue, but will help you for now to see all the pictures you want.
