B3 Photos > Collections > 2007 Ecuador

These are photos taken by members of Builders Beyond Borders (B3), on their six projects in Ecuador during the winter and spring 2007 school breaks. Based in Fairfield County, Connecticut, B3 is an organization that takes high school students on work projects to poor communities in Central and South America and the Caribbean. The projects are funded by the students themselves. We had 10 teams travel to Peru this year, to work on six different community projects. Three teams constructed a school in the poor fishing village of Ballenita for adult education and children's after school programs. One team built a computer center in the barrio town of Vente Quatro de Mayo. Two teams constructed a facility in the village of Chaupiloma to be used as a daycare center by the indigenous Indian residents. Two teams first repaired, and then doubled the size of an existing school, in the Guayaquil barrio of Sabanilla . One team built classrooms for a group home for troubled young men. And in the barrio town of Nuevos Prosperinos, one team, in partnership with the local Rotary Club, built three new classrooms and made improvements on the property. In all, 340 students and 60 adults traveled to Peru to work on these projects, leaving behind many new found friends and having made a positive impact on the communities they visited.
