Lying In Wait - Ghost Tiger

Lying In Wait - Ghost Tiger by Buck Forester.
This is a weird shot but it's of a white tiger, underwater, ready to pounce on a chunk of meat. This was from a family outing to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA. There's a twice-a-day feeding of the tigers in the water which you can view through a window. The railing and legs you see in the image are reflections on the glass of the watching crowd, and the red thing is a suspended piece of meat that was just tossed and has the full attention of the hungry tiger. At least I'm assuming he's hungry.

Alternately titled "Ghost Tiger" and "If Looks Could Kill"

Shot with a Canon 5D, Canon 70-200mm lens.

I get mixed feeling to read about the how and why of this shot, the result on the other hand is amazing! Like he's jumping out of a nightmare.

Never seen that before. /shiver/ I certainly wouldn't want a tiger to look at me like that. ;^)

@ Dabbler - Tigers are not adverse to water like most cats. If the zookeepers really wanted to entertain the masses, they'd let them tear apart live animals as they do naturally, in the wild.

I wonder if an after-noon mealtime shot would have a reflection in it.

Thank you!

For the record, from what I've heard there are no more wild "White Bengal Tigers", the last one having been shot back in the 1950's. Odin was raised by his trainer since he was two weeks old and they really seem to enjoy the water. The scary looks are simply because they squint to close their nostrils and fold back their ears to keep water out.

Mark Griffith, no, I only took one backpacking trip this summer (so far) and it was leading a troop of Boy Scouts, ha! I plan to get out this fall, but I've been saying stuff like that for a while now. :^D

Happy Tinfoil Cat, this was taken during the late afternoon feeding and that's when the refections are the worst. I have some from the morning feeding, perhaps I'll post one or two in the upcoming days.

Thanks again for the welcoming back and the kind words!

I think I make the same face when someone dangles meat in front of me. Or at least an In & Out burger.

What a great shot. The timing on this couldn't be more perfect. And all that effort for a 6oz piece of meat that probably would have ended up at Sizzler anyway.

Hey Julien Raoul, good eye! It was my mistake in the caption, which I corrected. I thought I had my 17-40mm on there but it was my 70-200mm. I was switching lenses.
