...Man I love this time of year...and believe me, if you hunt morels...you live for the moment you walk up to something like this, and what you dont see is that it continues beyond in clusters like this throughout the forest we were in.

I love this photo. The decomposing kelp provides food and shelter for amphipods and many other animals. I mean, did you know that extract from kelp like this could very well be used in the ice cream you eat?...that in itself, validates its curious inspection by anyone that walks over it! To me, it is everything that the beach and ocean is... Walking along the "pretty boring beach" there are literally 100s of oddities like this to photograph... I caught a few but undoubtedly missed many more, some are microscopic and I couldn't even see or photograph anyway. The texture of this kelp against the sand is just beautiful! San Diego, CA.
