Awesome! Thanks for feeding my longtime fascination with Antarctica.

Would make a really nice (and different!) addition to the Panoramas pool, if you don't mind.

Wow, quite the alien landscape! Amazing. Is the line of penguins in the distance caused by shoreline there, or a downslope below your elevated perspective?

Small: The sea ice just stretched flat towards those ice-cliffs, so I think it must just be a coincidence they were all strung out in a line like that .

This would be so beautiful if it wasn't for the bloody lack of focus.

BTW, when were you in Antarctica? I'm so frigging envious.

I echo Kiki - the full size is horribly blurred

@Kiki J. I took a similar photo on the same day www.flickr.com/photos/brynj/15642290/in/set-3 76081/
but reckon it'd get panned in this group for being a cutesy penguin snap ala Wananga.

I echo the focus problem - and the horizon looks slanted. Eagerly awaiting more shots from the trip though!

@ Bryn, that on is gorgeous, but again blighted by lack of focus.
That's the only thing missing, but it's a major thing.
It looks sharp at the viewing size, but when you click on large, it comes out blurry.

Ah, blah...I wanna go see penguins now.
Are you there on a tourist trip or work?

you have a wonderful shot here, but like i have said a couple times already today, you need to do some post work on it. i understand it's ice, but damn, there are a lot of blues and whites you can work with to make this a more interesting picture. pump up the contrast a bit. work with the sky!

Outstanding exotic location and subject but lack of focus drags it down.

I don’t know shit about photographing wild penguins, but I sure wish a few were closer, for more depth, and just to get a better look at one.

Oh, now I have checked out your other shot and see you did get closer.

With a bit of post-production (plus, a bit of a crop would be nice) your other shot would be pretty damn cool.

Cutesy penguins in the wild beat the hell out of cute anything in a zoo.

Keep taking pictures! Get out there now!

I wish I could go there. You have a very different shot here than what people normally see. It looks like a wave that was frozen instantly. I was going to save it but it needs to be sharper. I know it's a hassle but bring one. Hasselblad medium format would bring out great detail!

Focus good. Out of focus bad.
Right, think I've got it :-)
For anyone interested here's the original the crop was taken from
www.flickr.com/photos/brynj/33924255/
I went with the crop though as I thought the ice cliffs were the most interesting thing in the picture, not the penguin in the foreground who looks like he's about to have a football kicked at him.
@ Kiki J. Working here until next March for the British Antarctic Survey. So still got a bit of time to focus my damn camera.

Brrrrr...

It is a little flat in tone and contrast. I love the splash of color and light on the right.

A little photo editing will improve on what is promising to be a VERY good pic!

Don't get me wrong, it's a great documentary shot, but just not safe worthy. The other one is better and the penguins are super cute, but not safe-worthy. But I'm just one person with lots of opinions, so don't let me stop you! Post and get panned that's most of the fun any way!
