One of my first prints

One of my first prints by Bryan Villarin.
I tried to get this scanned print as close to the real thing as possible. I cropped out the white borders since they weren't clean.

I didn't write down how I exposed this in the enlarger - shame on me, I guess. (More at All Narfed Up)

Lens: Kiron 28-105mm f/3.2-4.5

It's definitely a location you need to visit if you're ever in El Monte, especially since there's no locked gate yet. Shh...

Wow dude... looks like a cool place to shoot some b/w film! Nice work on the print, especially for not using any contrast filters. Looks like you've got plenty of contrast right on the negative. Did you guys print with no contrast filter at all, or did you just have a set filter in the head? Usually b/w prints will come out extremely low contrast with no filter at all.

And shame on you for not writing down the settings! It's a good idea to keep at least the f-number, exposure time, and filter number along with the paper and developer used. I go so far as to write down the easel and head position settings for that particular print so I can reproduce them easily. I keep these things in a little notebook, but I also write them on the back of the print in pencil (but only the print that goes in my personal portfolio/archive).

It sounds like you're learning a lot about the process though -- and that's awesome! You'll have to show me a few tricks when you come down here and print in my darkroom.

Brian Auer - Thanks!

Our teacher didn't show us contrast filters at this point. But, he said this paper already has a #2 filter built in. I can't explain the technical details on that. =/

I'm not sure what I'm learning about the process that'll differ from you. It's slow and methodical, trial and error.

I hope I can come down there sometime in January (after the semester ends).

I should add that I revisited this location with a newer film camera and better lenses. If I get my assignment done early next Tuesday, I'll try to use that free lab time to print one or two from that roll.

Nice work, Bryan. So this was your first wet darkroom experience? Great, isn't it?

Very nice contrast. Keep the prints coming! I really like this shot and I'm envious of your darkroom access. I haven't done a wet print in oh-so-long.
