A Fire-challis(Zauschneria garrettii) blooming at the Aviary. A perfect example of a Hummingbird specialist flower. They are bright red,There petals are fused to form a tube so only Hummingbirds can get there nector, and they have no sent, because Hummingbirds can't smell. They also bloom from Mid-summer too Autumn, during the Hummingbirds slow migration back to Mexico. And Hummingbirds do love to suck on them.
