Superior's Finger Bone

Superior's Finger Bone

A finger of rock extends into Lake Superior. Waves, sunrise.

I really love this subtle type of sunrise. It feels so peaceful to photography it.

Orange and Icy 5

Orange and Icy 5

Sea smoke rises from Lake Superior during this sub-zero morning. The sun rises over an icy shoreline and waves roll in.

It was -15F this morning when I took this. I love it that Lake Superior doesn't freeze very often. It makes for such fun pictures. One more from this morning is here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=283455141714209&set=a...

The Dark Woods III

The Dark Woods III

Part of my winter The Dark Woods Project.

This is an experiment using black and white and a Lensbaby Composer with a double glass optic.

I used f/5.6 on this one and like that better than the f/4 used on the others. Still not sure where I'm going or what I'm trying to do with the project.

The Blues at Five Mile Rock

The Blues at Five Mile Rock

Sunrise over Lake Superior near Five MIle Rock.

We just haven't had the right conditions for me to continue The Dark Woods project. I need snow or fog, which we haven't had. So, today I went to Five Mile Rock to photograph the sunrise. We didn't really have a sunrise, but I found this picture. The small bump of pixels on the horizon is Five Mile Rock. It's 5 miles from Grand Marais and about 3/4 miles off of shore.

The Dark Woods II

The Dark Woods II

Lensbaby and birch trees. The Dark Woods Project.

This is the second image in my The Dark Woods Project. I tried to just keep the Lensbaby sweet spot in the center of the image and blur the outsides. I still think that I need a slightly smaller aperture. This is f/4, so I'm going to try f/5.6 for the next image that I get.

This is a slightly different look that the last image (see below) and I'm not sure if they fit together. Thoughts? Feedback, etc. is welcome on this project.
