The Drillers

The Drillers

I've been involved in a cool project over the past month: working with Yellowknife's McCaw North Drilling & Blasting Ltd. to update their bank of images and office art.

As a photographer, I love it when businesses think outside the box, and when these guys asked for something a little non-traditional in terms of company portraiture (and a series of abstract black and white art prints of their equipment for their office walls), I knew it would be a fun fit.

Lighting info: this was a two-light set-up. Key light is a Elinchrom head modified by a large Paul C. Buff PLM system to my right (light is about 10 feet high). 2nd light is a bare bulb bouncing off ceiling to my left to provide fill in the background.

Ice on the Elbow

Ice on the Elbow

I couldn't spend a weekend with Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou - two of Canada's best known and loved nature photographers - without convincing them to take me out for a little landscape love.

Elbow Falls, Kananaskis, Alberta. ISO 50, F/11, 6-second exposure.

Alberta Breeze

Alberta Breeze

My only desired characteristic for my talent for this weekend's southern Alberta workshop was "unique", and unique we got. Meet Talyn Stone, who was more than we could have hope for.

Photographed on a back country road outside Airdrie, Alberta.

Simple one-light set-up. Elinchrom Octobox to model right. Ambient under-exposed by about 2/3 a stop.
