The contrast between the boy & the tropical background add such dimension. The chid almost looks as if he is supper imposed into the pic. Interesting & beautiful to the eye.

This is the area inundated in Nubia south of Aswan following the completion of Aswan Reservoir in 1902. Aswan Reservoir is an engineering that was established at the beginning of 20th century to help controlling and management of Nile water and is different from Aswan High Dam established there in the 1960's.
The river course runs across granitic masses there and tends in general to hug the eastern side creating a wider cultivable west bank where the boy stands. So, the shot is facing east and is taken in pre-noon time as indicated from shadow of boy.
The noted rocky outcrop protruding into the river channel at the center of the right side suggests that this may be the First Cataract area where rocks obstructed the river course by this time but this vanished with the establishment of Lake Nasser there by the 1960's which inundated the whole area.
