Hollywood Knits: Judy Garland

Hollywood Knits: Judy Garland

This is one of our favourite titles from the BFI Library book collection. A whole host of Hollywood stars are pictured in knitwear along with knitting patterns to reproduce the items yourself. Judy Garland fans and crafty types can cosy up with this pattern from the book for a rather glamorous angora sleeved cardigan.

About the image

The press book was a marketing tool employed by film distributors to encourage cinema managers to exploit a film to its full potential through both in-house advertising and liaison with local businesses and newspapers.

In addition to cast lists, plot synopses and film stills, the press book would also contain other promotional ideas such as this painting contest aimed at engaging young audiences with the release of Brian Desmond Hurst's 1951 feature, Scrooge.
