A fun little curly Q I spotted in an alley a few years back during a prime lens flickrmeet.

Have a great weekend all and a happy birthday Saturday to my *old* shooting buddy Hugh!

Like many an Edmontonian who is sick of our long winter, here is a photo with a little of the green stuff ... grass! Taken at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village a few years back.

Through the Curtain … revisited ...

Through the Curtain … revisited ...

… with a paintbrush! This weekend I had the distinct pleasure of viewing and photographing a painting done by Betty Benson. Betty is the mother of my dear friend Cindy. She had asked for a number of my rural photographs so that she could paint them. This one proved to be a challenge I am told and this was no surprise to me … check out all that lace! The painting is triple framed and floats within. Nicely done Betty!

The original photo is in the comments.

peek a boo pup

peek a boo pup

11 years ago today we were a busy family. Our beloved Airedale terriers Bentley and Kate blessed us with a litter of 7 healthy puppies. This carefully planned event was a marvellous experience for the entire family. A few years of competition in the show and obedience ring proved that this pair were more than just a couple of fabulous family companions, they were excellent ambassadors for the breed in conformation and obedience. Although we lost our two in the latter part of 2012 at the ages of 15 and nearly 14, many of their fabulous group of seven live on to the delight of their families.

This young fellow peeking through the fence on our deck is Fraser. The photo was taken with my Canon Powershot S30. I remember how thrilled I was with this photo then and in all honesty I still am.

Happy birthday pups!

An Easter Toast ...

An Easter Toast ...

… to all my Ukrainian friends and the thousands of immigrants that came to Alberta in the 1890's. I was intrigued to read just now that many at that time settled in Edna, now known as Star. A favourite little hamlet of mine which I have visited on numerous occasions. As most of you know a passion of mine is rural photography. In particular rural homesteads, some which now lay in ruins. Yes Jim Ukrainian churches too. I feel it is important to capture this incredible rich culture which is so much a part of our Alberta heritage.

The decorative eggs you see are called pysankas. Three were decorated by my daughter Alanna when she was in grade one … back in the mid-90s. The other two were a gift to my mother from a dear Ukrainian friend of mine back in 1977.

Happy Easter one and all.
