Flying and Floating

Flying and Floating by Brian Auer.
Photo taken on Kodak EktaChrome E100VS film (and cross processed) with a Diana+ camera as part of my $50 Film Camera project entry.

Finally, after several failed attempts, I got a photo of a bird I scared into flight. What's really amazing is how sharp this turned out considering how it was taken.

I'm pretty sure that this photo of me taken by Bryan was shot at the same exact moment. The bird even has the same wing pose. Crazy.

The bird's left wing is more in focus than its right wing. His feet are already tucked for flight and Its tail is also pointing opposite motion (stream lined posture) suggesting it has been in flight for several moments. Its right eye and beak are in good focus. The boat on the left of center is in better focus than the one right of center as is everything along the distant shoreline. That's strange for an optical train.

haha! well... that's what happens when you shoot medium format with a cheap piece of plastic trying to pass as a camera. And that's the reason why so many of us love the Diana+. The bird is actually surprisingly sharp considering the shutter speed is about 1/60 seconds.
