Darkness Creeps In

Darkness Creeps In by Brian Auer.
Photo from a recent photowalk in Huntington Beach with a few friends. This photo was taken on Fujifilm Velvia 50 with a Minolta SRT-Super equipped with a 135mm f/2.8 lens. The film was cross processed.

I'm not sure what the deal is with this photo. The heavy vignette on the right isn't characteristic of this lens. It turned out kinda neat though.

And this is why I love shooting film.

It's possible that the negative was slightly underexposed, which means a vignette. If this was in the shadows then that tends to black out pretty easily.

I hear ya, man! I'd like to see a digital camera produce something like this straight out of the camera (btw, no processing on this one other than dust spot removal). As you can see, most of the scene is underexposed because I was metering for the sky -- plus it was on slide film -- plus it was cross processed (which tends to burn out the shadows anyways).

yup, this is definitely a "happy accident" worth hanging on to. Next time I do a sunset, I'll definitely try shooting it with the Velvia 50 again.

Do you develop your own film?

No, I don't. I have a professional lab do it for me. I'll probably jump into developing my own b/w film soon, but I'll continue to have them do my color and cross processed stuff since it's a little harder to do.

b/w, since that's what you're offering in the comp.
