From the United States Botanical Gardens Rare and Endangered Plants :

Agave victoria-reginae is endemic to the arid lower elevations of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains in northeastern Mexico. Unsustainable harvesting by plant collectors who value this plant for its striking appearance has severely impacted wild populations.
