This whole series is really cool brevity! May I ask about your technique?

Neil  Pro User  says:

It's a Python script, based on flickr.py by James Clarke. The script requires a lot of hand-holding and is rather buggy.

The final product is enhanced in the Gimp to bring out the highlights and shadows.

This set is amazing. Great work. Did you ever expect the results to be this beautiful and engaging?

Also, "arch" as in the St. Louis Arch (or any others really) might be interesting...

Neil  Pro User  says:

mhusson: thanks!

"arch" was a good idea but it doesn't work -- the pics are 50-50 light on dark or dark on light, so it cancels.

As for famous monuments -- they work better, but I'm more interested in everyday experiences.

re: expectations, I thought of it as a science project.

what about "face"? or "christmastree"?

What I like best about this set is how at the smaller sizes of the image, it looks more and more like what it's supposed to be.

Extraordinary idea, and amazingly like Turner, as other people have said. Apparently Turner used to repeatedly wash off and repaint, maybe that's where the similarity comes from.

setre: wow. How did you find that?

I am aware of that guy from the all-seeing Technorati. He and his friends discussed them at length -- in Latvian.

The find was purely accidental, I just browsed through his stream.
