I rather like wind turbines. Some people find them to be a hideous blot on the natural landscape; and I understand the viewpoint - but most of the good (i.e, windy) places to put them are on pretty coastlines. What's the answer - solar? Use less energy? Both?

Oh, nice picture btw :-)

I think seeing wind turbines in the landscape is a small price to pay for a cool clean atmosphere. Besides, they can be removed later when better alternatives are commercialized with zero lasting environmental effects. They don't destroy the environment like strip mining and are certainly more beautiful than oil pumps or platforms.

Both. The problem is that nobody knows the answer. No alternative is perfect. We're used to having our cake so any alternative has to be cost competitive regardless of the environmental benefits.

Yes, you're right about the cake. If we just came along and had to start from our current knowledge base, maybe we would have a different expectation. In the past, it was "we want cheap energy, to hell with the environmental consequences" - now it's gradually moving towards "we want energy and it must be clean and renewable. If we can get it at a reasonable price, bonus!".

Good point too about removal... never really considered that.

Love the muted sky color with crispness of turbines. Did you know wind energy powers Keystone resort?
