Mount Pleasant Fire #19
View big and on black
Backstory for those coming here from Explore: this was an 8-alarm fire in an apartment building in Washington DC, only the second in the district's history. It was 3 blocks away from my house and I was able to document the critical hour in which the fire threatened to spread to adjacent buildings but was finally brought under control. Amazingly, none of the residents were hurt but 200 people, mostly low-income families, are now homeless. The water ran out seconds after I took this photo. They lowered this guy and then it took them several minutes to get more water. (the full set has much more) UPDATE: I'll be writing more about this shortly at my blog. CommentsKalinith
