For the past three days I have been stalking David Hume Kennerly, trying to get a photograph of him with his lens pointed towards me. Every time I have been either on the wrong side of the motorcade, or he decides to "chimp" at the exact moment he enters my viewfinder (Yes, that's right, even Pulitzer Prize winning David Hume Kennerly "chimps"). In the end though, I think this shot more than makes up for it.

    6. numstead (66 months ago | reply)

call me ignorant, but what is "chimp"?

    7. Brad Gillette (66 months ago | reply)

@Numstead - Chimping is when you're shooting digital and pause to review the photos you have just taken. In some groups it is considered amatuer because some belive that a true photographer knows whether or not he has gotten the shot at the moment he releases the shutter, and shouldn't have to review them...personally, I think it's a-okay to chimp.

      thanks, thats hilarious

Super shot Brad. Did anyone pick it up for publication?

If Kennerly chimps, it must be OK.

Quite a few of those pictures are really good, Brad, and whether or not that kid is actually saluting (which, IMO, is debatable), it looks like he is and that's what makes a great photo. Congratulations, this is newsmagazine stuff !

For those of us old enough to remember, this photo instantly brings to mind the iconic shot of John Kennedy, Jr., saluting his father's body in 1963... BTW, yours is a very good shot and the set is impressive.
