Thayer's Gull (center) photographed on the Niagara River from Devils Hole State Park on February 10, 2012. This gull is in 2nd cycle "retarded" plumage. A few gray scapulars are coming in, but it superficially resembles a first cycle bird. It is retaining it's black bill, rather than the expected sharply bicolored bill of a typical 2nd cycle bird.
