Thank You
On Monday, the Global Fund gave a book with 700,000 names to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the 2010 conference in New York where donors made their financial commitments to the Global Fund for the years ahead.
The book contained the names of every person who signed the petition to end the transmission of HIV from mother to child by supporting their country’s contribution to the Global Fund.
Thanks to the billions of dollars pledged, the Global Fund will be able to continue saving lives and move closer to ensuring virtually no child anywhere is born with HIV by 2015.
Since the launch of the Born HIV Free campaign, supported by Global Fund Ambassador Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, over five months ago, the campaign has been exposed to more than 250 million people, gained more than 20 million responses and, with the help of campaign advocacy partners like Avaaz, ONE and the Global Fund Board Communities delegation, collected more than 700,000 signatures.
The billions of dollars pledged by donors yesterday marked the end of this year’s fundraising campaign for the work of the Global Fund. A real challenge now lies ahead in in order to deliver a generation free of HIV by 2015.
