Canadian Mobile Data Rate Costs (1GB)
Thanks to Thomas Purves for doing the original. I thought I'd highlight the differences just among Canadian carriers for 1GB of usage. In the original chart, while Fido and Rogers seemed to be ridiculous, now you can see that it's actually entered the land of the absurd.

The most depressing part is - if you want to use GSM in Canada (i.e. if you ever actually leave North America), you're stuck with the single worst option.
I'm in for starting a disruptive telco... how 'bout you?

Hmm, what type of traffic is that for for the CDMA networks? Because I pay like $20/mo for unlimited web traffic from my phone via Bell. However, I still get nailed if I plug my laptop into it and surf, which is what I imagine that graph represents.

Yes -- this is "real" data usage, not the bastardized locked-in-our-walled-garden web usage from phones. Oh, wait -- with Telus and Bell, you can't actually GET arbitrary phones that let you do this -- hence why it's cheaper. I guess the Blackberry is the closest thing to an "open" device for CDMA.
Essentially, most of this usage will be reflected by (for CDMA) a Bluetooth modem to a laptop. For Fido / Rogers, you can get unlocked phones like something from the Nokia Series60 family, that could use that much data all by themselves.

None of the words I find to write about this adequately express the noise I make when I read this! Thanks Boris - who wants to start a campaign?

wow. I'd ranted about this recently, but this makes it clear that it's so, so much worse than I thought.
