      PRINT SALE

Since I'm running out of both film and food at a worrying pace, as well as the money to buy these essential goods, I decided to go ahead and invest my last money in some beautiful prints of two popular photographs. If you have a blog or any other way to spread this sad news and the wonderful opportunities it brings for both home decoration and financial investment, I would be very thankful if you did.

For further inquiries contact me via jan[at]janpostma.com

If this proves to be a succes, I'll make available prints of two more photographs in the near future.

The dress in the photo is a fake. To whomever maintains that men in traditional costumes group, please check your members and your own competence for running such a group.

To the photographer: please take this photo down. You are engaging in cultural appropriation and economical exploitation by promoting your work with this travesty.

maybe she's just jealous her jewelry isn't viewed as much as your photography.

I am absolutely no expert in Sami Culture, although it does interest me from time to time, The most recent National Geographic Magazine has an article about them and from that I learned that each village has it's own distinctive traits to their clothing. So basically that means there can be hundreds of different varities to Sami clothes, and mind you when it's freezing cold, you really don't care what you wear as long as it keeps you warm. In fact, I have learned that even in normal society when people are faced with extreme cold they will get attached to a certain clothing piece. My dad swore by his Russian fur hat in winter when he would trudge the streets with his guitar. Perhaps the summer deer pelt here isn't very common for leggings, but who knows, when you are riding you want to keep the exposed parts covered up. To me he is a very handsome man and would certainly be a delight for me to see in person while trapsing through the woods. He is the perfect epitome of what we can only dream of that has gone by from yesteryear.

      thanks for your kind defense.

Let me make something clear (again): this is not an actual sami costume that much is right. It was made by a friend of mine who was studying fashion at the time, graduating as one of the best of the country two years later.

It is an hommage to something he thought beautiful. Calling the clothes, and my work for that matter, a travesty is not just preposterous, it is an insult that reveals a shocking level of ignorance. However much I dislike jealousy, I fear this is something far worse: stupidity…
